Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the custody, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his son.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on digital networks on last Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could offer prayers for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's determination was the chance of the former president's transfer to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a history of planning to seek refuge through a embassy office", a announcement said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the United States embassy in the capital, the capital city, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from Bolsonaro's home.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist American leader President Trump, prompting him to implement a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

Bolsonaro is being detained in a national police facility in Brasilia and will undergo a custody hearing on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to permit him to serve his whole jail sentence under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be permitted to depart his residence for medical care, saying he required regular treatment for lung conditions and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he knew of a plot which encompassed plans to kill his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was prevented because it didn't receive the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was inaugurated without incident on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on the eighth of January, many his followers attacked and damaged public facilities in the capital, the capital city.

The law enforcement intervened and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been incited by Bolsonaro whose strategy, they said, was for the country's army to step in, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

At the time, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also prohibited from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him competing in the 2026 national vote.
